An Alternative Pride

The first London pride was organised in 1972 on the anniversary of the stonewall riots. It was organised out of squats, explicitly linked to anti-racism, feminism and class struggle and led by a black steel band. Pride 2014 will be led by a military band and brought to you by coca-cola, Tesco and some bank.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Last summer, as part of our social centre, HoB organised an alternative march and party. It was organised last minute, with no funding, almost no publicity and, I feel, was a blast. This year we want to take it to the next level and we want you to be a part of it. We are kicking off this Saturday.

Come plot and plan with us and help us take pride back to its militant, intersectional roots but with fresh ideas as well. There are enough people out there who still don’t want to get married, be well-behaved, fight colonial wars or march shoulder to shoulder with the police.

Our initial ideas bouncing session will be at 2pm as part of ‘Queer Free Thinking’ at Ron Todd House, 33-37 Moreland St, London EC1V 8BB, (Saturday 12/04/14)

(don’t worry if you can’t make this session, just watch this space for updates 😉 )
